About The Owners
DAN + AMANDA
We moved to Alburtis in 2012 and instantly fell in love with it. We adore this small town, and we were very excited to have the opportunity to bring Eights Gym + Fitness to the community. We have 4 young school-aged children who attend the local schools, and Amanda is an active volunteer in the community.
Amanda grew up in Allentown and Quakertown, having graduated from the Performing Arts High School in Bethlehem and earning her BA in dance from DeSales University. She has been a dancer all her life, and has been teaching dance since 2009. Naturally, being physically active has always been important to her. She started lifting weights in 2018 and the competitive fire within her was immediately lit, always trying to top her own personal bests. She trains primarily with free weights, performing the main barbell movements: squat, deadlift, bench press, and overhead press. She also incorporates machines and dumbbells for her assistance and supplemental work. She competed in her first powerlifting meet in September of 2021 achieving a total of 262.5KG/579lbs!
Dan grew up on Long Island and earned his BS in Mathematics from LIU Post. He moved to Pennsylvania in 2004, and has been a middle/high school math teacher since 2003. Dan has had periods of being active and being sedentary throughout his life. In high school and college he played some sports, both organized and just around the neighborhood. For several years during and after college he trained hard and consistently with weights, following mainly hypertrophy-based programs. Today he focuses mainly on strength training and the main powerlifting movements: squat, bench press, and deadlift. Dan also competes in powerlifting, and is a judge/referee as well.
We started Eights Gym + Fitness for many reasons, but mainly we wanted to provide a place where regular and busy working people and family folk like us could train however they wanted without any pressure.
The name "Eights" comes from our wedding date: 08/08/08
